sinopsis
Previo al golpe militar en 1973, la Unidad Popular del presidente Salvador Allende se disputaba la poesía, la burocracia y la burguesía. Sindicalistas, funcionarios de gobierno e intelectuales de la izquierda de aquel entonces, se reunían para decidir el anhelado destino de su país. Este relato coral en forma de sátira y con un agudo ojo premonitorio, desnuda las contradicciones de aquellas fuerzas de gobierno soportadas en la jerarquía y el poder. La comedia como panfleto, la provocación como un presagio.
El realismo socialista se estrena 50 años después de que fuese filmada en la sección de Clásicos de la más reciente edición de San Sebastián, presentando una rigurosa y delicada versión restaurada luego de un extenso proceso de rescate, repatriación, reconstrucción y post-producción en cabeza de Valeria Sarmiento y Poetastros. Alrededor de toda la magia e imposibilidad que converge dentro y fuera de la obra, la película fue filmada en un bellísimo blanco y negro por Jorge Müller, reconocido cinematógrafo detrás de la trilogía de La Batalla de Chile de Patricio Guzmán, justo antes de su desaparición en 1974 a manos de la dictadura.
La más reciente -y quizá última- película de Valeria Sarmiento y Raúl Ruiz, es eco y es parábola, es prueba del tiempo como elipsis, del cine como un milagro.

Prior to the military coup in 1973, the Popular Unity of President Salvador Allende was in dispute with poetry, the bureaucracy and the bourgeoisie. Trade unionists, government officials and intellectuals of the left at the time, met to decide the longed-for destiny of their country. This choral story in the form of satire and with a sharp premonitory eye, exposes the contradictions of those government forces supported by hierarchy and power. Comedy as pamphlet, provocation as foreshadowing.
El realismo socialista premieres 50 years after it was filmed in the Classics section of the most recent edition of San Sebastian, presenting a rigorous and delicate version restored after an extensive process of rescue, repatriation, reconstruction and post-production headed by Valeria Sarmiento and Poetastros. Around all the magic and impossibility that converges inside and outside the work, the film was shot in beautiful black and white by Jorge Müller, renowned cinematographer behind Patricio Guzmán’s The Battle of Chile trilogy, just before his disappearance in 1974 at the hands of the dictatorship.
The most recent -and perhaps last- film by Valeria Sarmiento and Raúl Ruiz, is echo and parable, it is proof of time as ellipsis, of cinema as a miracle.
