SYNOPSIS

In a town of arid land where it has not rained for decades, and with just twenty-two homes, all of its inhabitants are over age 70 with the exception of Justin, the town’s only child. That’s about all there is to Sacachún, a small town on the Ecuadorian coast. With memories of times past and with the whisper of death nearby, the inhabitants of Sacachún remember better times. These times were cut short when the statue of San Biritute was taken from the town to prevent paganism, a figure that comes from the ancient cultures that the town continues to worship. Currently on exhibit in a museum in the city of Guayaquil, could the return of this figure bring new life to Sacachún? Faith, religious syncretism, life and death each take the stage of a documentary whose ending puts skeptics to the test.
