SYNOPSIS

An indigenous farming community in Peru decides to hold a festival in honor of their saint to try to put an end to the disappearances that have been happening in their town. A film submerged in tradition, beliefs, community togetherness, the determination of each community member to make the saint happy regardless of how much time it takes to do so, and above all: pain. Filmed with non-professional actors, Mataindios hypnotizes us with its outstanding cinematography and its unexpected and surprising mise-en-scène. Its consistent use of chiaroscuro reinforces that feeling of pain and the unique way the inhabitants of these highlands deal with pain and try to bring happiness back into their lives. A beautiful film full of symbols and a quest that is deeply sensory and earnest.
