SYNOPSIS

All civil wars are, by definition, fratricidal wars. Syria is not an exception. Between 2011 and 2015, two friends, each on one side of the line of fire, recorded more than 450 hours of the absurdity, the death, and the pain. After seeing this violent film, we might understand even less the reasons behind a war that came undone in 2011 and has since caused thousands of fatalities. The directors are not interested so much in “why” things happen, but rather “what” happens to the people living this reality. In this film, the two young artists found that the camera and the videos they upload to the internet are ways of expression and condemnation, at any price, including putting their lives at risk. Filmed from the inside, almost too far inside, in the line of fire, the film captures moments where normal activities like jogging or going to a party take on a tone that touches on absurd. Still Recording is a combative and activist film. Powerful and touching. Winner of the Venice International Film Critics’ Week. A documentary whose echo will linger for years, resonating in the mind of the viewer.
