In the late 19th century and early 20th century, Tanzania was a German colony. Chief Meli paid with his life for his resistance to the invasion, but the pillage did not even end with his death. For decades, and for scientific purposes to demonstrate the superiority of the white man, skulls from all over the world, including Chief Meli’s, were taken to museums in Germany. More than a century later, a grandfather tells the story under the acacia tree where the mythical leader was hanged, in the hope that the new generations will not give up crying for the bones of their ancestors to return to the land to which they belong.
